Designing A Bathroom That Your Child Will Love

A child’s bathroom presents its own set of decorating challenges. Young children are frequent visitors to the bathroom, making this many times the most used room in the home. However, the bulk of parents have not the faintest idea where to start in decorating a bathroom for their child. Children can be vocal about things they dislike, so parents of young kids sometimes find that their design choices are less-than-welcome. This article will give you a few tips for decorating a child’s bathroom.

Knowing The Gender Behind The Decorations

Decorating a bathroom begins with the gender of the child (or children) who will use the bathroom. A boy’s bathroom can be decorated to appeal to his interest in specific passions such as cars, cowboys, bugs, etc. A bathroom for a girl should feature things which a boy would be less interested in; perhaps princesses and dolls. If both a girl and a boy are going to use the same bathroom, it’s important to keep a neutral theme in the bathroom while catering to their interests simultaneously. No matter what your theme, there are plenty of accessories and decorations to choose from.

What Accessories And Decorations Can Be Used?

There are many different ways to accessorize your kid’s bathroom. For example, if your child likes to play with cars, a curtain and bathmat set that has a car pattern on it is ideal. Or, if your children are fans of Disney in your house, they can have bathroom rugs with pictures of Mickey or Minnie, for example, in their bathrooms.

Even toothbrush tumblers are available in many different styles. For example, you could buy a dinosaur-shaped tumbler, or one of Cinderella. Hand soap and lotion pumps that liven up kids’ bathrooms with their favorite animals, sports objects, or cartoon characters are also available.

Other things to consider that may liven up your kid’s bathroom include tissue dispensers, soap dishes, wastebaskets, or knobs.

For instance, you can replace the knobs on any bathroom wall cabinets or drawers in your child’s bathroom to ones which will appeal to them.

You can buy knobs that look like clown faces, jungle animals, or soccer balls, depending upon what your children prefer. Similar interests can be reflected in other decorations.

A Bathroom That Grows With Your Child

As your child gets older, of course the bathroom is not going to be appropriate if it’s decorated in a Mickey Mouse theme, for example. As your child’s interests change, the bathroom theme must also change. Bathmats, shower curtains, tumblers, soap dispensers and knobs can be changed to reflect a child’s new interests.

If possible, avoid using decorations in your kid’s bathroom that might be difficult or impossible to change. A wallpaper pattern of giraffes may be very appealing to a four year old – but less so when they are twelve. This will leave you with wallpaper you’ll have to replace when your child outgrows their obsession with giraffes.

Decorating a kids bathroom is limited only by your own imagination – there are so many options open to you that the hardest part will be choosing which to go with. The way to put together a bathroom your child will love is to know what they are interested in and buy decorations and accessories which meet those interests. Just make sure that they are decorations which will be easy to replace as your child outgrows their interests. With a little planning and imagination, you can create the perfect bathroom for your child.
